Bone Mineral Density

A Bone Mineral Density (BMD/DEXA) is a quick, non-invasive way to check your bone health.

It is similar to an Xray but measures the strength and mineral content of your bones. DEXA is used to screen for and monitor Osteoporosis, Osteopenia and other conditions that can weaken your bones and determine your risk of bone fractures.

Patients aged over 70 are eligible for a Bulk Billed DEXA once every 2 years.

Some conditions may require more regular monitoring. If you have been referred for a DEXA, we will ask you to complete a Medicare eligibility form before your test which will determine whether you will pay out of pocket, or whether it will be Bulk Billed.
